Nit check before using the head lice treatment

Head lice are easy to spot as they are white or clear in colour and should be caught in the nit comb. However the eggs may be harder to spot. In order to combat this, we recommend the nit treatment is used again seven days after the first application to ensure the treatment is successful in killing the head lice and preventing any more eggs from hatching.

If a case of head lice is identified, all household members should be checked for head lice. Only those with live lice or eggs should receive the head lice treatment.

What is a head louse?

A head louse is a small, wingless insect about the size of a sesame seed, so contrary to popular belief the louse cannot fly. Head lice also cannot jump and the only way someone can become infected is through direct contact with another infected person.

That's why it's a good idea to check and use the treatment on all infested heads so as to avoid a re-infestation of head lice.

What's a nit?

A nit is the egg of the head louse which can be found attached to the hair before the louse hatches or throughout the hair as infestation occurs.

The nit treatment comb should help you effectively locate nits and lice in the hair and should be used before and after the shampoo and conditioner treatment to check that all lice are eradicated.
